Shopping Guide First Friday on E Burnside

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Fri, Sep 7 at 9:50 AM

Happy Friday, and being that it’s First Friday, here’s to hanging out with the kids on E Burnside. Always a good excuse to check out store in the 811 building and beyond, look for mellow times and new Fall arrivals, as well as the new permanent vintage section of Denwave and, hopefully, the first batch of housewares from resident accessory designer Hazel Cox! On the back side of the building, don’t forget to check in with Stand Up Comedy—the inventory of their store is really filling in. With some absolutely stunning fall pieces from Patrik Rzepski, new denim from April 77, and more arrivals all the time, this place is really coming into its own. And don’t forget to put something awesome underneath it all! No First Friday would be complete without a stop at Lille Boutique (1007 E Burnside), where you can catch the tail end of their sale as well as scope out new styles from Araks (swoon), Princesse Tam Tam, Eberjay, and more.

I really like these suspender trousers from Patrik Rzepski, and below are some of the April 77s:

Fashion And So It Begins…

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Thu, Sep 6 at 1:59 PM

New York Fashion Week is underway, which means those of us experiencing the excitement remotely have our internet-ing cut out for us. See the first of the Big Four’s crop of shows as they trickle on to the web. While there are many, many sites and blogs that will be covering the event from all sides, find straight-up photos of the shows at British Vogue online and Style.com, just for starters.

Shopping Guide New Store: Atomic Daylight

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Thu, Sep 6 at 11:11 AM

More info pending, but here’s a heads up on Portland’s latest retail acquisition, Atomic Daylight (8711 N Lombard), opened by Jaime Potts to showcase her own one-of-a-kind pieces, as well as some select designer vintage. Looking forward to checking it out. From the St. Johns Sentinel:

Designer Jaime Potts has had her own clothing line for years, sold mostly out of stores in California. One day, the two-year North Portland resident was having coffee at Anna Bannana’s on Lombard when she looked out the window and saw a “For Rent” sign on a store window. An idea occurred to her. “Do my own clothing line, have my own store,” she says. “Why not?” Atomic Daylight, which opened Sept. 5, carries Potts’ one-of-a-kind clothing (“If it happens to be in your size, lucky for you,” she says) from new and recycled materials, along with some “very select” designer vintage items.

Shopping Guide Light Switch Clothing

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Wed, Sep 5 at 11:29 AM

No doubt, there are about a kazillion web sites doing designer resale and consignment. That’s why it’s gotten so dang hard to find anything at the actual thrift stores and estate sales. If you’re going to go down that road of internet shopping, I suppose you may as well order it from a company that’s working locally—the goods have less distance to travel, at least. The latest of these is Light Switch Clothing, which offers deals like this Louis Vuitton bag:

Just… DON'T Your “Hello Kitty” Wedding

Need a theme for your upcoming wedding? Look no further than this ceremony that has “Hello Kitty” running out of its ass. SERIOUSLY. It’s running out of its ass!!

Accessories Oh My God, Shoes

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Tue, Sep 4 at 1:07 PM

The new web site whet my whistle over the weekend to stop by Halo Shoes. I really love that their merchandise keeps its distance from trends, and retains a really artistic aesthetic. And, it needs to be noted that they have brought in a number of lines with a more modest price point (Corso Como is a perfect example—to give you an idea, that line is also available at Imelda’s). It’s nice that now you can get in and out of there without spending the rent money, and the covetable high end merch is still there for when you’re able to splurge. They’ll be continuing to get in new fall shipments from favorites like Moma and Chie Mihara, so keep checking back.

The brown and black Corso Como boots are a quality classic, and not over the moon expensive.

These “two-faced” boots from Cydwoq are some of the hottest I’ve seen them produce.

I tried on these Dries Van Noten shoes for fun, to see how much height they would give me. They are so wacky, like orthopedic fetish shoes.

And let’s not forget the men:
