Fashion Are you high?

Posted by Amy Rosko on Fri, Nov 16 at 11:24 AM

I got into quite a debate last night about my new find from the Goodwill Bins, a fabulous pair of vintage Jordache high-waisted jeans. Personally, I think they are fantastic. They actually fit better than any other jeans I own (extra bonus: remember that these are from The Bins, so there was no trying on prior to purchase). They are in great condition. They probably cost less then $1. They have just a bit of stretch and they are freakin’ Jordache. All of the ladies around agreed that they are fantastic, as long as you can pull them off. No poochie bellies allowed. BUT, the boys on the other hand said my “Mom Jeans” are so not sexy and that they made my butt look to long. What? Most of us would not be here today if the men of the 70’s did not find their ladies sexy in high-waisted jeans. What about the real Charlie’s Angels (not the Drew Barrymore crap), they were totally hot in theirs. Are the boys of the 21st century too used to seeing butt cracks and thongs thanks to the low-rise phenomenon that it made them immune to change and style?

Alright, I need some more input here. Let’s put this to a vote.
High or Not High??

TOTAL MOM JEANS! And yes, it probably is the lowrise fad that shows a bit of crack now & then that make these jeans one of the worst fashion ideas ever created. NOT SEXY AT ALL [except on MILFs who are over the age of 40, MAYBE]!

2 things here: First of all why does it seem like people here and on Blogtown take it as a given that when a woman gets dressed she is only successful if she looks "sexy"?

Also, I shyed away from highwaisted pants, until Adam Arnold's fall show this year when he showed a pair of very high waisted trousers with thin leather suspenders. I was trepidatious about ordering them, and we decided we'd try them out and adjust the cut as needed to suit my petiteness, but you know what, they (or at least the muslin pattern—the real deal should be ready any day now) look great, with the waist at the originally designed height. So much so that I'm going to wear them to my high school reunion next weekend.

Amy, I think you are NOT high!

I've been snubbing low rise pants since their debut. I love my Fremont high waisted jumpsuit. I'm on your side. If the boys don't understand, well, that's another issue.

high waisted jeans for girls now means high waisted jeans for boys in a few seasons. i really like my 527s (low waist boot cut), but i don't mind 517s (regular boot cut) and classic 501s. strangely, though, i had a dream last night about some jeans with jumper-style waist and braces. i guess that's why i'm posting to this.

i'm not really into the high waisted jeans.
