The fourth season of Battlestar Galactica starts tonight (though you can watch the episode on the Sci-Fi Channel’s site at noon), so it’s going to be a long day on the Mercury blogs. Among the many mysteries the next season will solve and perpetuate is this: what fab space-tramp outfits will Number Six wear next? Clearly, she is the best dressed sexy Cylon on the show (though I would argue that Sharon is cuter). My only quibble is that her clothes look like they are made out of super-cheap material, giving her wardrobe a sad, slightly Bebe-ish dark cloud, and considering the overall quality of the show’s production, there’s just no excuse for that. Still:

Pinkham Millinery (515 SW Broadway) is known locally and nationally (see the interview with Dana Pinkham in the March issue of Nylon) for her exquisite hats for men and women. Like all good investment pieces, they last, and also like all good investment pieces, they don’t come cheap. Excellent news, then, for those of us who aren’t married to hedge fund managers: Next weekend, Fri-Sat 4/11 & 12, from 12-4 pm, there will be a sale with 25-75% off Fall felt styles, Spring straw styles, samples, and discontinued designs. And of course, champagne. Oh, and if you are living on the upper crust, perhaps you’re attending the Kentucky Derby this year? If so, you need a hat, and Pinkham, due to demand, has been coming up with designs especially for this purpose. But, orders must be place by April 19th, call 796-9385 for an appointment.

Blogs are taking over the world! I’m even writing about blogs on a blog!
My day would not be complete without checking in with blog search engine, Technorati to read the latest blog posts. Without Technorati, how would I ever know that Christina Ricci wants Jessica Biel’s butt. Oh yeah, read it here.

But seriously, blogs are a really important business tool and this Saturday (4/5) DIY Lounge is hosting “Blogging as a Way to Market your Crafty Business (101)” from 12-2 at The DIY Lounge (1639 NE Alberta). Here are some more details:
Blogs are much more than just online journals - they’re a powerful way to build community, and an excellent marketing tool — that is, if you use them wisely. In this class, we’ll discuss techniques for building a compelling blog, attracting a wide audience, and then directing attention to your own art/craft business. We’ll also talk about click-through ads and affiliate marketing programs. You’ll leave with lots of good resources for further research and tools for getting started.
Registration is open now and you can do so on their website.
Strut, the annual fashion show to benefit Basic Rights Oregon, has announced it roster of designers, and it’s looking none too shabby May 16th at the Wonder Ballroom, BTW):
• Magalí Corzo
• Adam Arnold
• Emily Katz
• Sofada
• Dress to Kill
• Popina Swim
• Amai Unmei
• IDOM
• Under U 4 Men
When you clear out your wardrobe with some spring cleaning, here’s another place you can put it to good use: BodyVox is getting into the eco-thing with their upcoming premiere of Horizontal Leanings, which is being produced using sustainable practices including costumes made from recycled clothing. Here’s what they’re looking for:
This world premiere work will feature 12 performers in multiple dances, with multiple moods. The clothing needed to help create those moods reflects the same variety; included on the wish list are: Formal wear, men’s and women’s (think prom formals to bridesmaid dresses, trousers to dress shirts and tuxedos) Bathrobes of all kinds (but sorry, not plaid!) Overcoats Green clothes – literally, clothes in the color green Hats & Scarves Neckties, neckties, neckties! For an original creation to be fabricated completely from – neckties
Clothing drive days at the studio (1300 NW Northrup) are this Friday and Saturday, 10 am-2 pm, and donations will be rewarded with 2-for-one vouchers for tickets to the production.
According to Gawker and more reassuringly, the New York Times, Woody Allen has sued American Apparel for $10 million for using an image of Allen as a rabbi (via Annie Hall) on billboards:
If you missed it, here are some snaps from Merc photographer Minh Tran’s visit to Portland Fashion Week’s panel and fashion presentation at the Better Living Show. Here’s some of what was shown by Anna Cohen:

and Nau:

Yesterday I stopped by the work in progress that is Frances May, the much anticipated (by me, at least!) boutique opening its doors this Saturday at 1013 SW Washington. It’s a bigger space than I expected, with nice high ceilings and lots of widows. It was still being worked on by proprietress Pamela Baker-Miller and her cadre of helpers, but she promised it would be ready in time for the champagne reception Saturday evening from 6-8 pm. I posted earlier about some of the lines she will be carrying, but I am especially excited for Samantha Pleet, who collaborated with Avant16 on a short film, She Comes in Colors, to showcase her Spring/Summer 2008 collection. Watch it here.
