It’s been a while. Are you going to stick around this time? Because I don’t know if I can handle it if you leave again.
Better go get some sunglasses. Just in case.

$186, Karen Walker at Le Tran Bleu
$270, Funk at Visage
Three things to love about Portland jewelry designer Anna Korte’s line, Anna:
1. Korte uses antique pieces from as far back as the 1940s, so every necklace is limited edition.
2. The highest price you’ll find is $80.
3. Necklaces are the perfect length—short enough to be seen, long enough to swing.

Check out the collection at Frances May, 1013 SW Washington.
Fun times! Not only is the Sex and the City movie coming out (which I am going to assume is totally awesome until I see proof otherwise), there’s going to be a themed fashion show on May 22nd in anticipation of the film opening here, featuring designs from Emily Katz, Sofada, and more, plus a runway-walk contest and specialty cocktails. The catch? The event starts at 7 pm, and is a private event until 10. And if you don’t get an invite, tickets are $20 in advance. Oh well. Check out the deets here.

Floral prints are popping up all over the place. Erase all memory of Laura Ashley—these are not your grandma’s florals. Unless she was a Stones groupie.
For Spring 2008, the coolest came from Balenciaga:

The prettiest, from Prada:

The most dramatic, from Dries van Noten:

Now, say you can’t spend $1500 on pretty little dress. Luckily, local designers have a fresh crop in store, right now. Here are two totally affordable options.

Beatrice Glenora Ellen Doyal Geil (what a name!) is described thusly in a missive I’ve received:
Beatrice Glenora Ellen Doyal Geil was a most extraordinary woman. Raised by her grandmother in one of the poorest coal mining towns of West Virginia, Beatrice grew up to become an accomplished lady of the 1950’s and 60’s traveling the world, socializing and hosting dignitary events alongside the wealthy and privileged. “Jimmy,” as she was known to her friends, lived with a passion and vitality for life that is clearly represented by her clothing collection. Each piece is charged with Jimmy’s enthusiasm and her fire to feel fabulous in the world. Jimmy created her collection with a keen focus on quality, attention to detail and an understanding of the inspiration behind each design.
Jimmy’s granddaughter, Caroline Fitchett, is showcasing her grandmother’s collection in a fashion show and sale to benefit the National Foundation for Democracy and Human Rights in Uganda this Friday in the garden of her home at 5347 N Michigan, at 6 pm ($10 donation at the entrance, and 10% of sales going to the cause). Sounds like an opportunity for collectors and do-gooders alike.

Elizabeth Dye’s latest fashion collection, “Three is a magic number” debuted on Friday, and it was a satisfyingly cohesive crop of neon-piped dresses, watery prints, and easy cuts. If you missed the show, be sure to stop in at The English Dept. to check them out. Special thanks to the awesome Minh Tran for the photos!

The 19th annual North American Hairstyling Awards (NAHA) take place on July 13 in Las Vegas (hosted by Victoria Jackson). This year Oregon is representing with Capello Salon up for the design team category—The Teals, married couple Ryan and DeAnnalyn Teal, are also up for the fashion forward category. Check out some shots of their work here, and if you want to attend the ceremony, you can get your tickets here.

It’s true: Gwyneth Paltrow wore a Stella McCartney jumpsuit to the Iron Man premier. Personally, I loved it and hope this is one more step toward a big jumpsuit comeback. They’re everything fashion should be—fun, frivolous, futuristic (in a 70s way).
Unfortunately, I don’t see them nearly enough. Let’s change that! To promote the jumpsuit cause, send me a pic in your favorite onepiece by Monday, May 19 and I’ll select the best, post it here and give the winner a $50 gift certificate to Red Light, which incidentally has an incredible selection of retro jumpsuits—from sleek 70s Cher styles to pop-bright early 80s pieces. Plus a few flightsuit types for guys.
Along with Fringe Vintage, they’re the best places in town to pick one up (prices range from $11-$20). You know, in case you don’t have a selection at home.
Send pics to: brettglass@gmail.com.
