This Friday, Adam Arnold will be showing his fall collection at his Eastside studio. Rather than a show, it's a party: from 5-9 there'll be cake, champagne, and lots of clothes to touch and try on.
On Monday, I visited the studio for a little preview. There is one piece I'm under orders not to mention--but it's going to be functional, a little crazy, and super-cool. It is something that we here in Portland should have had a long time ago.
I'll say no more.
After the jump, sketches, a few finished pieces, and a glimpse of how Mr. Arnold makes it all work.
The designer at work late Monday night

Designs begin as sketches on the chalkboard. "It's a place to draw/write things down to remember later or look at for a while and see if I want to use them."

After the chalkboard, pieces get sketched on paper. BTW, I'm toally buying this coat.

Lovely.

One of the dresses you'll see Friday. I love the fabric, but Arnold says that pieces can be made with a number of fabrics.

More fall pieces.

Arnold does his own sewing right in the studio.

I really dig that mustard yellow dress. Seems he's very 60's inspired...I like that. A lot. Not many Portland designers have caught my eye but I like this dude.
