Tonight the new incarnation of Breeze Block Gallery opens its doors at 19th & E Burnside (hint: it's an alley next to the parking lot of the hearing aid place on 20th). I was just down in the space, and they've got their work cut out for them for the next five hours or so: There are two murals on the walls that were just finished yesterday, the work of seven artists' work to hang, and lots of unpacking to do, but something tells me they'll make it work for the party tonight from 6-10 pm featuring DJ T. Rust, New Deal Vodka, and a store-wide sale. I'm psyched because Chelsea Erhart of Erhart Design is making it her home base, too, as a studio and retail area, where she whips up streetwear out of funky fabrics from hole-in-the-wall Fabrics for Less mixed with basics and the occasional shipment of exotic stretch wools from Egypt. The result is an ongoing experimentation with the basic hoodie, easy to wear dresses and tops, plus funky stirruped jumpsuits and long johns. Check out some shots of her holiday collection as seen at the recent Explode La Mode fashion show:

You can't really tell from a distance, but the dark pieces of this hoodie are made with a stretchy, gold-stamped denim...
...and the black and white blocks on this one are a beautiful raw silk.
