If you've been by the suite in the 811 E Burnside building most recently occupied by Nationale, you probably noticed that something is afoot:

Golden Rule just opened quietly in June, and according to the shop/projects's Wynde Dyer, "We're a social experiment in creativity and commerce, curating a new showcase in furniture, fashion, jewelry, etc., each month to match the art on our gallery walls." Not your average shop, you see. Rotating monthly, June combined silk pieces from the '70s and '80s with oils by Erika Diehl, this month is dedicated to work by Lauren Ebaugh and Tasha Liegel, with pieces describable as "bohemian, safari chic, hot mom, Fleetwood Mac mama, and legal Lolita." The official opening/dance party isn't until August 6, and that month is all about "psychedelic and ceremonial garments, wild prints and patterns, and crazy bathing suits to match Howard Gillam's 40+ hypercolored alchemical animal pieces."
The unusual model came about when Dyer inherited a huge collection of vintage clothing after her mother died last year, and she decided to do something creative with it, folding in her other loves of art, furniture, and jewelry. I love the multi-disciplinary possibilities in this, and they are open to designers to contribute works for future months' themes, which are worth a perusal in their own right. So it's a store, yes, but a pretty interesting art and design project as well.
