The owner, buyer, and creative director of Seattle's Blackbird—a very well regarded menswear store that carries a wide selection of clothing and apothecary items—Nicole Miller confirmed via email that she has "not signed the lease yet," but that there are plans for a Portland outpost in the works. "The building is on Burnside across from American Apparel near the Ace," Miller continued. "There will be 6 units after they remodel. Our space will be 600 sq. ft. We hope to have the store open by June 1st. We are still working out the details on what the mix will be since we have so many price levels and genres. This will be a Blackbird branded store." This is great news for Portland's menswear scene. I'm still confirming the other retailers looking into joining the space, but my impression is that it will be a menswear-heavy compound, and an excellent masculine counterpoint to neighboring boutiques like Frances May and Odessa that will further solidify the West End area as a fashionable shopping destination. In the meantime, check out Blackbird online, and start getting excited.
