Why Helena Bonham Carter Wore Different Color Shoes to the Golden Globes

Posted by Marissa Sullivan on Fri, Jan 28, 2011 at 2:54 PM

While it's totally not MOD's style to cover Golden Globe or Oscar fashion do's and dont's, anyone that loves fashion and follows "celebrity" pays attention to these events. We all had our Globe favorites—mine was Anne Hathaway in Armani Prive. But one DON'T stood out more than the rest; that being Helena Bonham Carter and her mismatched shoes. When asked why she did it, her answer was simple:

“Why not wear mismatching shoes? Who says we can’t? I was just having fun,” says Bonham Carter. “For me, fashion is all about fantasy and putting unlikely things together. That’s what I love. I genuinely love dressing up.”

When asked what she'll be wearing to the Oscars she answers:
Maybe I will wear the exact same [Vivienne Westwood] dress I wore at the Golden Globes but with matching shoes,” she says with a big laugh. “Or put the shoes on my head!”

She's kind of kooky, but here in Portland we're not big on labels or what's fresh off the runway, so I feel that this quote is something we can all appreciate.
Fashion is all about having fun. I think fashion has been hijacked by the fashion industry creating rules on what one should wear and I feel like breaking the mold and seeing that the world won’t crumble.
