Fashion Class with Filly

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Wed, Mar 16, 2011 at 4:02 PM

Fashion students, take note: Filly designer Emily Christensen is teaching an advanced class as part of PCC's fashion program. The class, titled "Collection," will be on Tuesday evenings from April 5-June 7, and Christensen describes the coursework thusly:

I designed the class and this is our first quarter putting into action. Students will start where all fashion designers start- with a season, a deadline, and an inspiration. The season will be Spring 2012. The deadline will be 10 weeks. And the inspiration.. is up to them. We will discuss the basic principles of a seasonal collection and what the industry expects them to know: how many pieces to make, how those pieces interact with each other to create a stronger "whole" body of work, how the targeted season affects the process, and how less is more. The fashion world is a tough business and so often people jump into it before they are ready. This class will get them ready.
