This DIY project began yesterday as a result of shopping trip, when I was tempted to buy a ridiculously overpriced pair of cut-off jean shorts. I turned to my best friend and master DIY-er Annie to help me turn an old pair of jeans into jorts. Easy, fun, and most of all affordable, anyone can do this project: All you need is an old pair of jeans, sharp scissors, and a piece of chalk.
Here’s the step-by-step:
Step 1: Try on jeans; tuck in pockets and see where the seams lie before marking with chalk.
Step 2: Start a few inches down from pockets, mark with chalk at desired length. It’s better to cut a little longer versus shorter. You can always cut them more after trying on to see the length.
Step 3: Make sure chalk marks are even before you begin choppin’.
Step 4: Lie jeans flat and cut carefully on along the chalked line.
Step 5: Cut both pant legs off to desired length, then try on.
Step 6: Fold together and even out any strays
Step 7: Pop into the washing machine, then dryer to achieve the frayed look.
Step 8: Wear with love and enjoy your new jorts!
