Semi-sad news on the Portland retail front. IDOM founder and designer of the in-house IDOM line Modi Soondarotok writes to announce that the NW 23rd store will be closed by January 5. However, they're not going away entirely. They plan to reopen as a studio/showroom in the 811 E Burnside hotspot: "The IDOM collections will be available by appointment, trunk shows and during weekend showroom hours. Beginning in January you'll also be able to shop IDOM online." In the meantime, they're throwing some crazy sales, kicking off with a party tomorrow from noon 'til 8 pm, with mounting discounts up until the store's last day:

30% off everything in the shop - December 10th- 16th
50% off everything in the shop - December 17th-24th
75% off everything in the shop - December 26th-January 5th

Says Soondarotok, "Things have been so hard with the economy being on its downturn. I'm looking forward to my tiny studio where I could actually work and have much lower overhead cost... The production has been affected by the three-month floods in Thailand. Hopefully we will recover and be back on schedule soon. I'm hoping to do more trunk shows in Scandinavian countries, and also in Belgium, France, Holland, Australia, and Korea. It will be nice to travel again with the pieces." Yeah, that doesn't sound so bad at all...
