Taste Spring Fashion Show Review

Posted by Kayla Rekofke on Wed, Mar 14, 2012 at 1:40 PM

Recently opened wine bar Taste, on NW 23rd, hosted a presentation style show last evening featuring neighboring shops Amai Unmei, Prana, and Oh Baby Lingerie. Onlookers sat at individual tables or at the bar, unlike a typical runway setting. This style was interesting, and provided a closer look at each garment. The champagne was flowing (at a special discounted price) and the waitstaff couldn’t have been more gracious or attentive. Now for the clothes: I must admit I only had my iPhone to snap pics with, so bear with me. The presentation went in segments, with each designer showcasing a few looks at a time throughout the evening. Here are my picks from each:

First up was Prana. New to Portland, this lifestyle brand boasts yoga pants in the same material as the ever-popular Lululemon style, but $10 cheaper. Prana also offers free weekly yoga classes. My favorite looks from their line included a ballet style pant in pink called the Satori Legging, and a men’s pullover long sleeve top called the Sherpa Crew. The legging also comes in white and black and is totally wearable for yoga, running errands, and lounging.

Next was Oh Baby Lingerie, who showcased a variety of looks, including a killer cashmere robe with a sassy teddy underneath. I loved that the models are employees at the shop and represented different ages, body types, and styles of underpinnings. My other favorite was the velvet kimono-inspired robe with silk lining that just screamed "oh la la luxury," and had me dreaming of prancing around in it.

Then Amai Unmei presented their bright collection made from mainly silk and bamboo materials. I absolutely adored the Dolly Dress, shown in a lovely goldenrod sun color. It would be the perfect dress to wear to a summer wedding. The styling was right on, with a bold Nakamol stone necklace. Surely a statement piece, this necklace would be great for day paired with a tee and jeans, and a showstopper with a little black dress for evening. The other dresses shown ranged from a punchy printed dress, a raspberry batwing dress, and a Mad Men inspired shift dress in a beautiful plum shade. Overall it was a very wearable collection, and all styles can be done custom with your choice of fabric and color, which is a total plus.

Stop by each shop to snag the looks shown here, and if you’re in the neighborhood swing by Taste for a glass of wine and a cozy atmosphere. Lastly, one of my fave looks of the night belonged to one of the bartenders, whose colorful 'do was super cute:
