Last weekend I stopped by Christine Taylor's photo shoot of Bryce Black's fall collection, currently being shopped around to potential buyers in Portland and the rest of the country. Black and Joshua Buck will both be headlining Portland Sewing's Fashion Forward show, which once again has a change in date: It's back on for Sunday, April 29 at the Slate (2001 NW 19th Avenue, at Vaughn), but the time has been changed to doors at 6 pm, show at 7. I caught Black's collection of knit dresses at the Fade to Light fashion show earlier this year, but it was great to be able to see them up close and talk to Black about his concentration on shape for the collection. All in solid colors, they're at once very versatile and easy, but there's quite a bit of variation in the sleeves and hemlines, which Black says he feels represent an idea for the next step to follow the maxi resurgence. They'll probably average at retail in the $200 range, which ain't a shabby price point at all for locally designed and produced clothing. I know which one I've got my eye on.
