Why Buying From Emerging Fashion Designers Costs More Money (and Why That's Okay)

Posted by Elizabeth Mollo on Tue, Jun 12, 2012 at 3:30 PM

There is a great article going around the internet right now that I think everyone who wears clothes should read. It's titled Why Buying From Emerging Fashion Designers Costs More Money (and Why That's Okay) from The Hairpin. It basically delves into the reasons why clothing from emerging designers costs so much (and it's not because they are marking up the price to give themselves a huge profit) and why you should be buying from them. From nicer fabrics, to garments that will last you more than a couple of wearings, to not destroying the environment, this article is a nice reminder to skip Forever 21 and shop from one of Portland's many local/independent labels and boutiques. It might mean saving up to buy what you need, but that item will probably end up lasting you for years.

What I am currently saving up for, a Ms. Wood carryall.
