This Week's Style Events

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Mon, Jul 2, 2012 at 9:55 AM

It's summerish and every day this week is preceded by a "First," which means the retail scene's going to be popping the closer we get to the weekend with art openings and other festivities. This calendar (which will no doubt be followed by a number of addendums) will help keep you sorted, because if you're going to shop, may as well do it while they're pouring free champagne.

IN PROGRESS

Blake is just a couple days into their Spring/Summer clearance sale, featuring up to 80% off end of season merch from their roster of designer denim brands.

—The same deal at Una is on, where they're letting go of early spring and summer styles for 30%, as newcomers from lines like Clu, Serial Cultura, Zoe Chicco, Branch Jewelry and Ninh Wysocan are trickling in.

—Following the trend, Mink also let the floodgates up today on their own summer sale, with up to 70% off select styles.

WEDNESDAY JULY 4

Leanna NYC urges you to spend the holiday acquiring new wardrobe instead of losing fingers by offering 15% off your entire purchase when you buy something red, white, or blue. Plus, denim is marked down 20%. These deals carry over into their First Thursday shindig as well, when from 6-10 pm you can shop along with refreshments and view a show of paintings by Portland artist Megan Saxon.

FRIDAY JULY 6

Redux kicks off a portrait show by the artist Susan Sage from 6-9:30 pm, part of the always extra-energetic clubhouse that is 811 E Burnside.

Artist bio:
Susan Sage is a 23 year old self-taught portrait artist sporting a large body of work. A transplant to Portland from Seattle, she can usually be found wearing headphones, hunched over a piece of wood trying to recreate the face of someone she just met using watercolor and acrylic, her preferred tools. Her work displays a unique style, a combination of hyper-realistic elements with raw and out of focus accent points, the effect having been described as moody, whimsical.

—As previously mentioned, Haunt is not to be missed this First Friday. Not only are they debuting a photo show by Jon Duenas, but they're also hosting a sidewalk sale featuring Kate Towers, Emily Ryan, Sara Bergman and Demimonde Vintage!
Stop by from 6-9 pm for frills and thrills.

IDOM celebrates their fifth anniversary today from 4-9 pm along with their new-ish 811 homies, inviting you to take 30% off anything in the studio!

Sword + Fern is kicking out the jams for a "Cosmic Future Celebration," with a double trunk show featuring Ann-Ya and Iswas + Willbe. PLUS: complimentary in-house gemstone-infused herbal iced teas, a plant sale, new apothecary items. Get cosmic from 6-9 pm.

SATURDAY JULY 7

Isaac Hers welcomes their July artist, Ryan Kennelly, with an opening reception from 1-5 pm.

Artist bio:
Born on an 80 acre farm in Ohio, Ryan and his family of three currently live St. Johns, Portland. A school bus driver, musician, artist and believer, Ryan spends his free time with his family and of course painting. His work steps methodically between realism and abstraction, emotion and stoicism, and the spiritual and corporeal. Each one of his paintings exists somewhere in the middle of these seemingly opposed concepts and seeks constant balance between these ideas. Using either spray paint on screens or oil on canvas, his art allures you with its isolation.

—Adorable stationary/gift shop Troolie is throwing a party to celebrate their own ability to kit out your parties, with their new "Let's Party Boxes." Drop in from noon-8 pm for treats, deals and ideas.
