After last night's official Design Week kick-off, and with tonight's debut of FASHIONxt, you could literally fill your entire day with design-related activities. I'm perhaps most excited about the open houses happening across the city. Split into quadrants, doors across N/NE will be open from noon-3 pm today, and SE will come alive from 3-6 pm. Each studio/office/shop is doing its own thing, so expect everything from simple receptions to formal presentations, and lots and lots of snacks. The only tragedy is there is no possible way to hit everything in such a short window of time, so narrow your objectives, consult the maps, and strategize.

Other highlights: Matthew Stadler speaking at Publication Studio at 2:30 about publishing on-demand and the future of books; Em Space's letterpress presentations at 3, 4, and 5 pm; this evening's premiere of Jared Levy's Graffiti Fine Art documentary and type showcase at Ziba; and for those intent on mining the week's events for career advancement fodder, there's Jolby and Friends' treatise on collaboration (with beer!) at Fieldhouse at 4, and Mark Lewman of Nemo dropping pearls of wisdom on how to differentiate yourself in a competitive market at 4:30.

Later on is the warily anticipated first night of FASHIONxt, headlined by Project Runway vet Viktor Luna (also collaborating with Seth Aaron on a concept collection inspired by Intel...) and featuring a lone Portland designer, the Japanese-inflected Exclusively Yours Atelier, with an opening number sung by Liv Warfield. Should be weird!
