I don't know if it's your resolution or not, but 2013 is as good a year as any to become more culturally aware and to participate in the myriad festivals and events that clog the calendar all year, with a notorious concentration in the early days of fall. The newest member of the festival pack is Design Week Portland, which carved out a place for itself for the first time in 2012 with a huge range of events, from lectures to open houses and exhibitions, in the thick of what some have come to call "fest fest." Spanning any number of design-related fields, the Week is awesome for networking, edutainment, and party times. As if there was any question, they're hosting the festival again this year, and recently even nailed down some specifics in terms of scheduling. So bust out that crisp new 2013 planner and mark these dates: October 7-12. See you there.
