Doing the Don't: Holiday Sweaters

Posted by Marjorie Skinner on Wed, Dec 18, 2013 at 11:29 AM

Somewhere between a joke and a necessity lives the holiday sweater. They can certainly be ugly—and something that came up repeatedly during my recent survey of local style experts on what to wear to holiday parties was the wish that ugly holiday sweaters would stop being a thing (with the possible exception of the Portland Cello Project)—but they don't have to be, and sweaters are really the only universally sensible thing anyone wants to wear this time of year anyway. I picked out a few that are easy on the ugly and the literal "holiday" look, all available via your local designers and retailers:

1. Men's alpine sweater by Brady Lange, $125

2. Haring Dance Sweater at Wildfang, $132 (maybe not Christmas-y, but definitely year round festive)

  • Wildfang

3. Hentsch Man heavy crew sweater at Frances May, $235

4. Hope Tory Sweater at Table of Contents, $350

  • Table of Contents
