Speaking of under-served markets (AKA business opportunities) in the apparel world: While plus-size clothing has long held a presence in big-box retail, it's been enjoying an uptick on the local level, with shops like Union Rose and Mag-Big featuring and designing locally made styles as reasonably priced, off-the-rack options for women whose previous shop-local opportunities were often limited to custom work (which is lovely, but costly). Timed with the release of these new collections comes Summer Strut, the first plus-size local fashion show to hit town in recent memory, and scheduled for Sunday, July 13 at the White Owl. The complete lineup has been announced: Size Queen Clothing, Hubris Apparel, Clair Vintage Inspired, Scrafts, ALLIHALLA, Mag-Big, Copper Union, and Chubby Cartwheels. Plus! DJs Beyonda and Bruce LaBruiser!
